Why Should You Consider a Ceramic Water Filter?
A ceramic water filter is a non-pricey and efficient variety of water filter that purifies water from dirt, bacteria, asbestos and debris by letting it pass through the small pores of ceramic material. However, a ceramic water filter is not meant for removing chemical pollutants from the water. Moreover, it is easy to clean such a filter through a reverse-flow cleaning process but it is also brittle and can sustain hairline cracks that you cannot detect with bare eyes.
Types of ceramic water filter and how they function:
A ceramic water filter is available in portable varieties like MSR Miniworks that follows a pumping technology and in-line ceramic water filter that filters the drinking water supplied from the household plumbing. But the commonest types you could get in a store are pot type and candle type filters. With all these kinds of filters, the basic working mechanism is the same.
Water is poured into one side of the filter that blocks out the larger molecule contaminants. The water containing the smaller molecular components then passes to the other side of the ceramic water filter. The top half of a ceramic water filter is the place where the contaminants are accumulated and you need to clean these from time to time to discourage the growth of harmful bacterial and fungal growths.
How does a ceramic water filter work?
An average ceramic water filter consists of a filtration device that is placed on the top of a ceramic or plastic receptacle. This receptacle has a tap attached to it from which you can get a stream of clear water. This type of water filter is easy to maintain and you can clean it at home by using a soft brush and soap.
The most common form of ceramic water filter has an inner chamber for holding the water that is meant to be purified. It is the force of gravity that pulls the water through the ceramic strainer and the filtered water is collected into a holding chamber. This strainer is made of ceramic with fine pores that traps dust and bacteria and makes the water safe and nice flavored.
Advantages of a ceramic water filter:
A ceramic water filter is easy to make and even a common craftsman can manufacture its simple configuration. It is a cost effective filtration system that can afforded by poor households and rural areas. Because a ceramic water filter relies on the old method of distillation, it does not rob the water of its natural minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium that are essential for a glowing health.
Moreover, it is easy to install and use a ceramic water filter because it is small and portable. You can place the filter anywhere you want as long as it complements the beauty of the room.
Although a ceramic water filter usually has a low yield of only 1-2 liters per hour of drinkable water, its capacities have been greatly enhanced with the advent of modern technology.
If you buy an advanced ceramic water filter, it will be equipped with the technology to treat the water with colloidal silver to kill harmful bacteria and prevent the growth of organisms like mould, fungi and algae. Some other types contain active carbon for absorbing toxic compounds like chlorine.

kitchen floor remodel?
we had large (16") ceramic tiles installed in center hall entry, dining room, living room and hallway leading to kitchen - it gives a really nice open appearance and flows well from room to room - 2 rooms leading off the center hallway are the kitchen to the right and den to the left - I'm stuck trying to figure out the best looking, most affordable, and longest wearing floor for the kitchen and den to complement the ceramic tiles
I was trying to avoid using ceramic tiles in the kitchen and den - I'm aIways dropping things!
Continue the ceramic tiles into the kitchen. If not the exact same ones, then ones in the same color family that are good for kitchens. Or go for real hardwood in a similar color/tone.
